Bridging the Digital Divide
Since Computer Aid’s founding in 1997, we have brought access to technology to over 14.5 million people. We want to build a world where everyone has access to technology through sustainable IT solutions, providing access to high-quality equipment and education in the developing world.
Computer Aid’s mission is digital empowerment. To ensure that the benefits of digital technology and the skills to use it is available to everyone in an environmentally friendly way. So many people cannot afford to buy a new computer, tablet or smart phone and are thereby disadvantaged and unable to access the benefits of the digital age. They cannot apply for jobs online, get jobs which increasingly need digital skills or set up businesses and become entrepreneurs employing other people. Women and girls are particularly disadvantaged.
Computer Aid seeks to change this.
We are a South African registered in 2017 Not for profit, a level 1 B-BBEE company with charitable status. We are a women led organisation concerned to make South Africa a digital leader. All our directors and trustees are black women. We were established with the assistance and support of Computer Aid International a UK registered charity with a 25-year history of bridging the digital divide – www.computeraid.org
